The main uses of graphite petroleum coke

graphite petroleum coke is specifically used for pre baked anodes and anode paste in aluminum electrolysis,carbonizers in carbon industry production,graphite electrodes,silicon and fuel in smelting industry.

According to the structure and appearance of petroleum coke,petroleum coke products can be divided into four types:needle coke,sponge coke projectile coke,and powder coke:

1.Needle coke has a significant needle like structure and fiber texture,specifically used in high-power and ultra-high power graphite electrodes in steelmaking.Because needle coke has strict quality requirements in terms of sulfur content,ash content,volatile matter,true density,etc.,there are special requirements for the production process and raw materials of needle coke.

2.Sponge coke has the characteristics of high chemical reactivity and low impurity content,and is mainly used in the aluminum smelting industry and carbon industry.

3.Bullet coke or spherical coke:circular and spherical in shape,with a diameter of 0.6-30mm.Usually produced with high sulfur and high asphalt residue,it can only be used as fuel for industries such as power generation and cement.

4.Powder coke:Through flow coking technology,the particles are fine(diameter 0.1-0.4mm),with high volatility and thermal expansion coefficient,and cannot be directly applied in electrode preparation and carbon industry.According to sulfur content,it is divided into high sulfur coke(sulfur content above 3%)and low sulfur coke(sulfur content below 3%).Low sulfur coke can be used as an anode paste for aluminum factories,pre baked anodes,and graphite electrodes for iron factories.High quality low sulfur coke(with a sulfur content of less than 0.5%)can be used for the production of stone electrodes and carburizing agents-High quality low sulfur coke(with a sulfur content of less than 1.5%)is commonly used for anode drying before production.Low quality petroleum coke is mainly used for the refining of silicon in industry I and the production of anode paste.Fuel used in cement plants and power plants.

In the case of graphite electrodes for steelmaking or anode paste(melting electrodes)for aluminum magnesium,in order to make petroleum coke(coke)meet the requirements,coke must be calcined.The calcination temperature is usually around 1300℃,with the aim of removing volatile components from petroleum coke as much as possible.This can reduce the hydrogen content in the regenerated products of petroleum coke,increase the degree of graphitization of petroleum coke,thereby improving the high-temperature strength and heat resistance of graphite electrodes,and enhancing their conductivity.Calcined coke is mainly used in the production of graphite electrodes,carbon paste products,silicon carbide,food grade phosphorus industry,metallurgical industry,calcium carbide,etc.The most widely used is graphite electrodes.It can be directly used as the main raw material for calcium carbide without calcination,and can also produce silicon carbide and boron carbide as abrasives.It can also be directly used as coke for metallurgical blast furnaces or carbon bricks for lining blast furnace walls,as well as dense coke for casting processes.
